If you installed Ubuntu, it should be Ubuntu. Did you add Edubuntu from the repositories?
No i did not. what else could it be?
I never had this issue, I always download the disc for the version I need, in this case Ubuntu. May be someone can correct me if I am wrong, but I am pretty sure that the Ubuntu disc contains only the Gnome DE.
On the login screen, on the options does it list Ubuntu and Edubuntu both?
On the option screen for the duel boot is says windows xp or ubuntu. however when you log on it say edubuntu. and the look is different than it was before that reboot. under system is says both. what is the differnce between both.
There is not that much difference really.
Edubuntu is mainly aimed at school children hence the name.
The only way to install edubuntu is first install ubuntu and then... well then you might have to download the edubuntu to get all the programs and such that are meant to be for the kids. But what I belief that happened is that you downloaded the package edubuntu-desktop and perhaps other edubuntu packages.. could that be?
Look at the upper left corner:
System → Administration → Synaptic package manager
Filter "edubuntu"
if there are any green boxes next to any of the edubuntu stuff, take it away by clicking the box and mark to completely remove.
Then look for ubuntu-desktop and make sure that has a green box next to it. Then click apply and log out (no need to shut down the computer) and then log back in.
If that doesnt work.. give us a screen shot
ok i did that edubuntu was selected for somethings ubuntu was not. i made the change. then when i logged out and tried to logg in it said something about unable to load the theme. the log in screen was gay with flowers or something and had a whole lot more options then i remember. and now everything is black in the regular desktop. i took a screen shot and im going to attach it somehow. Now i used to have desktop version of ubuntu on a laptop. is there a difference and if so which would you think is better. and how would i change to the laptop remix. thanks.
Lost little boy
ok with this screen snapshot i included the package manager showing that the ubuntu theme and desktop are both installed. but when i log in or out the error message says it can not find the edubuntu theme. maybe i should just upgrade to laptop remix. can anyone help me with this.
It sounds to me like your system is still trying to load the edubuntu splash screen when you log in to GNOME. Try checking out System > Administration > Login Window. Hit the "Local" tab and see if for some reason you are still trying to load the edubuntu theme. I think your "gay little flowers" are from the Circles login theme.
There was a little mistake,
ubuntustudio is a similar thing to edubuntu as they both base on ubuntu.
So what you have is the look and feel of the ubuntustudio which is a ubuntu version for artist. You will need to find "ubuntu-desktop" not ubuntustudio.
I think you should try to have more resolution if you are able, this seems very limiting.
but I have no experience with ubuntu remix so you'll have to decide for your self. you can always begin from scratch
