Hi people,
Could someone tell us how to fix this battery power issue? I do not know how to fix the kernel and load "CONFIG_ACPI_AC=m", and I am sure that more people around does not either. A sort of how_to/guide would be perfect.
Thanks.

We're looking into this. It is probably something that will need to be fixed by the Ubuntu developers and will come down as an update.
I notice the next version (Karmic Koala/9.10) of Ubuntu has a functioning Power Manager.
I also noticed one other thing, I did a fresh install (see dying hard-drive post) and installed kde as well, and while the screen and all dims when unpluged, both the gnome and kde's power management applet doesn't recognize that it's been unplugged.
Also I have configured both apps to only blank and lock the screen when the lid is closed and ac plugged in; unfortunately when I close the lid while the ac is still plugged it is being put into sleep mode.
While not a big issue, this is a problem for when I am at home (will close lid but still access files from other pcs/laptops through network.
If anyone knows of an answer to that one as well, I'm all ears!
Thanks!
Jordan
I know this may confuse more then help but my panp5 seem to be recognizing power as on battery correctly. Even after resuming from suspend to disk, not sure bout plain suspend/stand-by though. However this was before my applet disappeared (another problem for a different thread)
Discharge time estimate in the power history never worked though
Laptops: S76 Panp5, HP tc4400
Other: numerous old desktops/laptops running ubuntu or puppy linux
I have this problem also on my brand new Gazelle (gazu1, arrived 6/11/09, Jaunty preinstalled). The battery is always designated as running on AC power, whether it's charging or discharging. It's never designated as "on battery." The AC powered actions are always in effect, so it powers off when the battery runs out, with no option to hibernate. The discharge time is always unknown.
If the problem is Jaunty having the AC adapter driver built into the kernel instead of as a module, then this bug should be affecting everyone with preinstalled Jaunty, right? So to add to Guille Damke's questions, is there a bug report filed, is there a how to guide underway for fixing manually, should we send a support email to try resetting CMOS first, etc?
