Basically I installed the following packages in the following order by double clicking on them (after they were downloaded of course):-

iscan_2.20.0-6.ltdl7_i386.deb
iscan-plugin-gt-x750_2.1.0-5_i386.deb

I started up XSane and away the scanner went
Remember to be patient with the scanner the first time as it takes awhile for it to warm up/initialise.

I also tried the IScan program and that works ok too.

every time i go to the avasys site and follow the instructions i am unable to get
iscan-plugin-gt-x750_2.1.0-5_i386.deb

so how does one exactly get these files

the only ones i see are as below (bolded ones are the relevant ones for me)
