There are a few but I think most people use vlc for almost all the videos/movies. It's available from the repos.

Gnome-mplayer (frontend for mplayer) is good.

There is also Kaffeine, XINE, Totem, etc...

Installing the ubuntu-restricted-extras package is a good idea too(includes lots of codecs).

Vlc and sm player are the good choice and it can handle almost all audio - video formates. It can be downloaded from synaptic package manager.

Vlc and MoviePlayer only give you sound only. No video.

    Any suggestion.

    Thankyou.

    Re: avi player

You probably need to install a package for video output e.g. xvideo.

    Code:
    sudo apt-get install libxv1

    Re: avi player

Also installing the package "ubuntu-restricted-extras" could help.

VLC plays everything known to man, even if the file is corrupted.

If VLC doesn't play it, something is very, very wrong.
