Re: How-to: Install modem ZTE MF626 HSDPA in Jaunty

Thanks Unkuiri, you save me! Can i send you a postcard of my city in Brazil?

But i need one more thing: A way to the modem be detected in the boot, for use in remote gateways with ubuntu server and wvdial. If i leave the modem plugged in usb and shutdown, when i power-on the pc, the modem stills 19d2:2000, and the udev rules not works.

    Any idea are welcome!

ps.: sorry for my poor english

Hi scr3wdriv3r I'm a newbie, it wasn't me that have done such a great tutorial, I just traduced one from spanish to english, but if you want to send me a postcard anyway I'll appreciate and even send one to you from mine, want me to private you my adress?...
For your problem, as the little I know...I don't think that there is any solution that works all the times......the modem isn't fully integrated in ubuntu and in my computer sometimes, it is difficult for it to work right away, I have to unplug and replug the modem for it to work...
The best I got is the tip from GeorgeVita that automates the process and when I plug it changes the usb mode automatically...

    I have an idea!!......
Why don't you try to execute usbmodeswitch as a startup program?
    Try to do this:
go to startup applications and add a new application with this command:
    sudo /usr/sbin/usb_modeswitch -W -c /etc/usb_modeswitch.conf
then you just need to type the password and it should work...with luck..
let me know if this worked...

    Hi!

I tried to install my mf626 as you describe and everything seemed to work fine. Network Manager detected it and displayed the configuration dialog for a new connection.
However, when I try to connect it fails every time. It tries to connect but then displays that it is not connected.
    Syslog shows the following:

I don't know what to say then....All I can say is that, in all forums where I've seen information about this modem, it says that it is not fully supported in Ubuntu...I almost all times have to unplug and replug the modem for it to connect...but when it's connected it works relly fine...

Sorry that I can't help you more in this matter..

Yes, I tried to unplug and plug in again and when I tried to connect the first time it asked for the pin code.
Anyway, as the modem seems not to be supported very well I decided to return it and I am now looking for a Huawei E160. This should work better...
However, thank you for trying to help!

Thumbs down Re: How-to: Install modem ZTE MF626 HSDPA in Jaunty

    My modem works great!
    Even without creating /usr/share/hal/fdi/information/20thirdparty/20-zte-mf626.fdi
I'm using Jaunty with latest updates.

i might also add as well to make the telstra pre paid wireless work in australia you need to add the connection that says

    Telstra (UTMS/HSDPA)

    *BINGO*

    thanks again

If someone asks you to sudo rm -rf anything, don't do it, and don't run any command with rm in it unless you know exactly what you're doing.things i have learnt changing from Xp pro to Ubuntu
