I know about openprinting.org but what about Scanners? is there a well maintained list of scanners that work with Linux?

No problem.
If you have a scanner and want to test compatibility on your machine specifically, you can look for Linux drivers or install Xsane.
Good luck.Code:sudo apt-get install xsane

HP and Brother scanners seem to be better supported than the rest. YMMV however.
I've got a Brother all-in-one myself, and it was pretty straightforward to set up.
What kind do you have, coldReactive?

I don't have one yet. I just wanted to know models of brands. I have a HP Deskjet 952C Printer though, and would like my own standalone scanner to go with it. Not a big fan of all-in-ones.
Unless there's an all-in-one that's on the market/shelves (of best buy, etc.) that works with Ubuntu and that's NOT LEXMARK.

Hi
Have a brother dcp-585cw all in one printer...was easy to set up the printer with jaunty 9.04 but have no luck with the scanner..tried connecting via usb but get an error message...would appreciate if anyone could suggest ideas?
Thanks
I don't see it at best buy's website, nor office max, and circuit city is out of business here in the states, and even though ShopKo around here has Brother machines on sale, their website cannot find them, meaning if they sold Epson printers, their website wouldn't have them.
Meaning I'd have to get your model off the Internet. That's specifically why I said it has to be on shelves, I don't like using the Internet to buy such big items.
