Thumbnails not showing up for a folder

Video thumbnails are able to show up for the sub folders, but yet they will refuse to show for videos in the main folder. I installed Movie Player (gstreamer) and SMPlayer which is supposed to come with thumbnails previews extensions.

Also how do i arrange folder items in groups? so files that start with letter A, are in their own category?

i found a partital solution to the problem. i had to move the files to a different folder and then move then once the thumbs came up, i could move them back to the original folder..

but i'd still like to know how to group files together in categories

I have the same problem, in my case the folder is ~/.thumbnails and all the sub-folders within it.

Strangely, I don't have this problem on another machine that runs Edgy Eft. So I suspect that it's a setting on Hardy Heron... but which one?
