For acerhdf, add a line to /etc/modprobe.d/options.conf like this:
    Code:
    options acerhdf verbose=1 fanon=62 fanoff=52 interval=10
This will log the temperature every 10 seconds (to /var/log/syslog IIRC) - and it lets you control when the fan comes on or goes off. When you're happy it's working, set verbose=0 to cut out the log abuse.

These are the temp settings I am using. It gets a little warm but doesn't run the fan constantly.

Good stuff folks. I'm supporting an AAO dual-booted XP Home with 8.10 for a relative. THis is all very helpful if/when I move it to 9.04, (NBR most likely)

So far everything works fine for me except for the lack of hot-pluggable right SDcard slot. That and every once in a while I hear a crackling fuzz coming from my speakers. That one is a little odd.

Has anybody else messed around with GMABooster? I've been using it, but haven't noticed really much of a performance increase. Also helpful because I get tired of the terminal, i've been using App Runner. Any opinions on either of those?

I'm managed to get the internal MIC working on my D150.

I installed 2.6.30-2-generic kernel and played with the setting in the audio controls and now it works

If you need any specific details, ask and I'll post back !

hey Tom, thanks for the tip!
Did you compile a vanilla kernel or found a pre-compiled package?

It's a shame you've heard the SSD is crap; I think mine is just fine! I get trouble if I run too many applications, but that's probably just down to the fact that I've set it up w/o a swap partition to save space.

I do have to watch how much *stuff* I put on, since I'm down to 1.3GB left, and I basically only have my OS and a bunch of other programs on. I keep all my music & pictures on an external hard drive (that I share with hubby) and since I use Google Android on my phone, all my contacts, calendar, etc. are kept in "the Cloud". I guess it's all in how you're used to working!

I actually love the SSD because it's completely silent and noticeably lighter-weight than the HDD versions.

If the right SD slot thing gets fixed, and if I ever get around to getting another SD card for the left slot, I'll repartition and set my /home onto the SD and create a swap on the main SSD, and I'm hoping that will fix the hanging problem I get when, for instance, I'm running Firefox, package installer, Last.fm and gThumb all at once!

PS. Is anyone else using Conky? I still haven't figured out how to get mine to work again after upgrading to Jaunty.
