    ICQ and Ubuntu Forums

    hey guys, here's a question:

I included my ICQ number in my profile details. I see that it has a clickable icon which allows users to send a message via a small popup window. Here's where the question comes up. In order to receive messages this way, would I have to make my ICQ account "web aware" and risk lots of spam?

    thanks in advance

    I don't know.

So I sent you a test message. If you received it, then your current settings are adequate. If not, then you may have to tweak things.

looks like you have to be web aware, which makes sense, since it's being sent through an applet on the web.

kind of a shame, but i won't worry about it unless i start getting lots of spam. thanks for you help!

EDIT: Scratch that, I tried again on myself and it worked without "web aware" enabled. I must have just been away from my computer for too long and lost it on hibernate or something. I hope that if anyone else ever has this question they find this post a useful reference. Thanks again dmizer.

Are there any specific settings you can change to make only certain addresses show up when you set to web-aware?

EDIT: Nevermind, due to edited post above
