Angry Wiimote crashes mythfrontend after upgrade

I already posted this thread here, but since I didn't get any reaction, I thought this forum probably better, hence the repost.

Before I upgraded to Jaunty I had a working Mythbuntu installation with Wiimote control using cwiid (wminput).

After the upgrade every button click on the wiimote crashes the mythfrontend.

I have checked the wminput settings with wmgui and everything seems fine.

So I started mythfrontend with the following options:

    Code:
    mythfrontend --verbose all
This is what I get as soon as I push a button on the wiimote:

    Code:
mythfrontend.real: Fatal IO error: client killed
2009-04-26 13:38:54.280 MythSocket: readyread thread exit
I have no clue what my next steps could be. Ideas are appreciated!

    My /etc/cwiid/wminput/buttons

    Code:
    #buttons

    #Wiimote.A = BTN_LEFT
    Wiimote.A               = KEY_ENTER

Found it is not mythfrontend related. Somehow clicking the wiimote crashes X!

This is what I get in my Xorg.0.log after I press a button:

Gave up and deinstalled cwiid and installed XWii. http://www.resplect.com/xwii/index.php.

PPA packages are available as well, so installation was a breeze.

I'm using wminput on a clean install of 64bit jaunty. I've used both the radeon and radeonhd x11 drivers with no crashes so far.

    Triptol,

You're actually the first person I've seen who's actually using their Wiimote for use with Mythtv (although I'm sure there's plenty). I've considered this but can't think of any real use for it. My question for you then is how are you putting it to use? What sort of cool tricks are you doing with the Wiimote that I couldn't get with a regular remote? The biggest appeal for me is using it for web browsing. It's got to be the best way to surf the web from the couch. Are you using it with your Wii sensor bar? Essentially, how are you using your Wii remote with Mythtv and how do you like it? Should I do it too? I gotta admit, I'm already tempted.

Re: Wiimote crashes mythfrontend after upgrade

I have my Wiimote controlling my MythTV box running 9.04 as well. No problems to report so far. Its odd that your cwiid was crashing X for you.

As for Mephisto: Look up Myth_Py_Wii on google to see some cool stuff.

Re: Wiimote crashes mythfrontend after upgrade

    Hi Meph1st0,

I do have a Logitech Harmony IR Remote as well, using the Wiimote was added because it is possible. However the Wiimote does have some advantages:

    • Bluetooth: it just connects better than IR does (at least with my receiver).
    • Handling: it (almost) has all the things nescessary, athough I miss the number buttons. It is very accurate and easy for everyone to use (the kids and the wife already know how the Wii works).
    • It is possible: I just read it could be done, so I tried it and it worked. Which is fun and adds to the geek factor. Visitors always wonder how it is done.

I'm not (yet) using the Infrared capabilities. I'm thinking of building in 5 IR lights in my Mythbox using an USB adapter, but I haven't had the time to do it yet. That would really increade web capabilities.

I am using the Flack function, to bring up the menu, which is kinda fun. Motion detection is not really helpful for the rest, although I have seen some nice examples with a motion detecting mouse on linuxmce.com.

Re: Wiimote crashes mythfrontend after upgrade

I get this exact same crash after upgrading to jaunty. It worked in 8.04. I'm trying to use my Wiimote in Frets on Fire via wminput. As soon as I try to arrow down in the main menu, X crashes. I use the nvidia driver for the GeForce 9300. When it worked, I used fglrx for an ATI card.

Re: Wiimote crashes mythfrontend after upgrade

I just did an upgrade on the same box with the same hardware. It is Nvidia I am using, so it might be related to what you are seeing.

Since I have moved on I can't provice any more information.

Re: Wiimote crashes mythfrontend after upgrade

I got my problem solved and FoF is working great now. The issue is the wminput driver seems to be buggy with the nvidia vdpau driver. So I removed it and installed xwii instead. It works fine.
