having the same problem - could you explain what you did. Remove usplash? or something. else?

Your problem might not be the same as mine. I happened to have a program called usplash-smooth installed, which was a special usplash for Intrepid that made the progress bar move slowly instead of randomly jumping like it always does. It wasn't compatible with Jaunty, so I uninstalled it and everything went back to normal.
