    Laptop Memory Question (Dual Channel?)

Okay I just have a quick simple question.
I have a laptop that I am getting memory for. It has two slots.
The max memory supported by the mother board is 1 Gig.
Is it necessary to buy two 512mb sticks, or will a 1 Gig work just fine in one of the slots.
I am hoping that the latter will work, but the person I am getting this for said they called a company and they said they needed to buy 2 512mb.
    Thanks

you didnt say what pc you got, so just guessing...1gig should work, but really should check the specs for yourself or post what laptop this is..

You need to check the specs on the Mainboard. I wouldn't recommended just popping in a 1g stick.

Great... I was hoping that it would just work, (just not in dual channel mode.)
To be honest, I can't remember the exact model, But it is an older hp pavillion laptop, and the memory it takes is ddr2 400 (PC2 3200). The main reason I asked is that I can't find any 512mb x2 sets of this ram, but was able to find a 1 gig set for less than $15. Anyways Thanks,
