Didn't pulse audio device chooser work? It should allow you to pick what device to send the stream, or you could make your life easier and make a combined virtual device.

Reality is that your hatred is being misdirected, this would be far easier if hardware companies would actually decide on standards, instead they just design towards making it easy only for the users of a single platform.

I checked pavucontrol's dependency list and it doesn't have conflicts with any package.

Are you sure you didn't have a failed package installation? Does that list appear when you try to install any other package?

    (1) Remove the ALSA packages. From a terminal:
    Code:
    sudo apt-get --purge remove linux-sound-base alsa-base alsa-utils
    (2) Reinstall the same packages
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install linux-sound-base alsa-base alsa-utils
Packages gdm and ubuntu-desktop are also removed in this process if you are using Gnome. They need to be reinstalled:
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install gdm ubuntu-desktop
If you are using xubuntu this will also happen to you
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install gdm xubuntu-desktop
    (3) Reboot.

If you needed to edit your /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base file you may not have to with the updated driver but if you still do the file in Jaunty is /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf. This is to conform to configuration file naming conventions.

Then follow the guide. let me know how this works out for you.
    Nope, this did not help.
I had sound after the installation of Jaunty but weeks later after a reboot caused by an Amarok crash my sound diasappeared completly! I tested the hardware by using a 9.10 LiveCD and there was sound, so now i want my sound back on Jaunty!
Here the logs of alsa-info.sh on 9.04 w/o sound:

using the liveCD from 9.10 i have sound again:
