[SOLVED] Jaunty terminal and update manager appear as white box.

After getting Jaunty configured for monitors default resolution and Amarok and Wine working well, i find that the terminal and update manager appear as solid white boxes. the update manager does this after pressing the check or install updates button. I was so happy to get 1600 x 1200 resolution finally, then this. Also some of the maximize, minimize bars seem to have be missing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Im afraid if i re-install i will just make the same mistake.

Try running it via the terminal and see what error message you get and report back

when i go to applications > Accessories > Terminal and click terminal all that comes up is a small plain white box. nothing inside it. no borders. no command prompt. nothing but blank white empty in screen. i would love to run anything in terminal but its whited out. Ty for your reply tho. very kind of you.

Are you running compiz (desktop effects found in the appearance settings) if so try turning it off and then see, if not someone else may know why but only thing i can think of.

I did a complete re-install. All I did after was set display settings in xorg.conf after enabling the restricted driver. Default for my Monitor is 1600 x 1200 x 60hz. When i try to open terminal now i get Blank White square again. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My xorg.cfg follows maybe it will help with troubleshooting.

Re: Jaunty terminal and update manager appear as white box.

Does this happen before manually editing xorg.conf?

I'm running nvidia here on Jaunty and I never had to touch the conf file.

The resolution was low until I installed the restricted driver and the upon restarting X I was up to full resolution.

    /etc/X11/xorg.conf

    Code:
    Section "Screen"
    	Identifier	"Default Screen"
    	DefaultDepth	24
    EndSection

    Section "Module"
    	Load	"glx"

    Section "Device"
    	Identifier	"Default Device"
    	Driver	"nvidia"
    	Option	"NoLogo"	"True"
    EndSection

Re: Jaunty terminal and update manager appear as white box.

After installing the restricted driver and restarting i still had same low resolution as before.
I then ran the Nvidia x server settings from system > administration and set 1600 x 1200 x 60 hz. as it then showed as option. tried to save the settings after resolution was ok and it didn't have permission.
so i cop[ied the changes it was making into xserver with permission.
Afterwards the video looks great except for terminal and a few other pop up boxes are all whited out.
    Ty for your reply!

Ah okies, fair enough. As far as a solution I'm stumped. Might want to search launchpad for a bug report or file one yourself if you can't find anyone with a similar issue.
