Emails as AIM Screen Names - FAIL

Screenames require the entire email address to be shown now when registering a screen name/handle with AOL/AIM when you login and to others when chatting through AIM -_-

How can I make it so this does not happen? How can I just register a name? WITHOUT HAVING TO REGISTER AN AIM.COM/NETSCAPE.COM EMAIL ADDRESS.

Well, I registered the screen name finally, but I had to also register an aol.com email address. Oh well -_-

Every time I tried to do it without an aol.com email address, it gave me "Service Temporarily Unavailable."

wait, so you are saying that if you register a new AIM account, your username is your email?

thats kinda stupid, especially since AIM has no way to change what your username looks like to other people.....

luckily i've had my AIM account since like 2001 so i'm good there =P

and btw....out of all the messaging clients, AIM and YAHOO are the best supported by pidgin, except for maybe jabber =P but id rather use AIM then MSN annnnny day.

The AIM screenname has been an email address for a long time, if you have AIM you can login at mail.aim.com. All AIM accounts were added to this, IIRC.
