I like switching by doing the default ctrl+alt+arrow but I am not so keen on using the mouse. I have not been able to find where to disable that. I am assuming is somewhere in Compiz Configuration?

I'm not behind my Ubuntu machine at the moment but I believe you can disable switching workspaces/cube faces with the mousewheel under the "Rotate Cube" plugin or it might be under "Viewport Switcher".
