Ubuntu PPA for Gnote (C++ port of Tomboy)

Gnote is my experimental port of Tomboy to C++

It is the same note taking application, minus things not done yet, boatload of addins and synchronization. Be patient they'll come.

The old PPA has been cancelled; instead there is another one here: https://launchpad.net/~gnote/+archive/ppa. Please remove the https://launchpad.net/~vperetokin/+archive/gnote one and replace with this one:

New PPA: https://launchpad.net/~gnote/+archive/ppa

April 15th, '09: Just a small fix to the package - make it so it appears in Applications and Alt+F2 right after installation.

Heh..like FLOSS needs to tap into the intellect that took 5 years to give up and release ... Vista.
Look at how major open source projects have improved in the past 5 years and you'll see no comparison.

Wow just the other day I was thinking "Tomboy's great but I wish they had used crappy, painful tools to write it in". Now with gnote, the developers will be able to really focus on the nitty-gritty programming details of it rather than adding annoying features and stability. Awesome!!

Wow. Since when are gcc, C, and C++ crappy, painful tools?
Since linux is implemented in C and it's pretty damn likely Mono is too, it might be a bad idea to curse the hand that feeds you.

But remember, kids - stealing code is fine as long as it's "one in the eye" for Free Software developers like the Tomboy authors!

C# is an ECMA and ISO standard. And i always find it funny how nobody mentions that the GNU Project (the one which Richard Stallman founded) has a C# implementation called DotGNU.

They are crappy, painful tools for desktop application development. For the kernel and lower-level tools like Mono, they are fantastic. I primarily program in C, but I would never choose it for something like Tomboy.

They say that when the only tool you have is a hammer, all of your problems start to look like nails. C and C++ are hammers are desktop apps aren't nails.

Look at Banshee and Rhythmbox. Banshee (C#) already has surpassed Rhythmbox (C) in terms of features despite Rhythmbox having a four year head start!

Are you suggesting that Tomboy isn't released under and open source license?
If so, there may be an even stronger case for re-implementation since Gnome is 'free software'.
