looking for desktop/file synchronization tool

Hi there!

Im using 2 laptops all the time and i wonder if there is a tool that could:

- recognize as soon as both laptops are connected on my lan
- ask me if i want to sync predefined files

I have a bunch of files on both laptops and when i work on one of them i would like these files automatically updated on the other laptop.

Can anyone recommend a comfortable (lazy) solution for this?

You can use rsync, but to detect the connected computer you will probably have to write a script.

Check out dropbox. Thats what I use for my important documents. As soon as a file in your dropbox folder is saved it gets uploaded to the dropbox site and synched up with your other computer. Also if you log onto the site you can get any revision you made to a file.

The best way to use it is to link to your important files or folders so that you don't have to actually move them into the dropbox folder.
