D-Link DSL-2640B wireless network NOT detected

    Hi,

    Here's a short description:

The said router was configured through it's web-interface in Linux. To connect to this in-built interface, I connected the router to the PC through an Ethernet cable.

The conection is fine in Linux, BUT ONLY through the said Ethernet cable.

The network is detected WIRELESS in Windows Vista (no cable pluged in) and connection is made and sustained normally.

The wireless network is NOT detected in Ubuntu (nor, consequently, possible to connect to it).
HOWEVER, other wireless networks (say in several coffee-shops) ARE detected automatically and I connect to them effortlessly, FROM Ubuntu! (usually with Thomson wireless-routers).

Hence, I am assuming this is NOT a problem with my PC's Atheros wireless receptor (see details below) NOR hardware incompatibility, per se, between the DSL-2640B wireless-router and the Atheros ... wireless-receptor.
There should be something I should configure differently in that connection though.

Any clues (or direct sollution... ) aprecciated.

Note:The two modules (ath_pci and wlan_scan_sta) mentioned in the said howto were NOT present in the listing. Trying to load each one now gave different results:
    ath_pci:
    Code:
    $ sudo modprobe ath_pci
    [sudo] password for ******:
FATAL: Error inserting ath_pci (/lib/modules/2.6.24-23-generic/net/ath_pci.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
wlan_scan_sta WAS correctly inserted. However, upon reboot was NOT present anymore.

Re: D-Link DSL-2640B wireless network NOT detected

    Thanks, superbrash2003!

Actually, after opening the link you gently provided, I went back to the other howto I'd followed and noticed:
Keep in mind that every time the Kernel gets updated you have to run these commands again:

sudo apt-get update && sudo aptitude install build-essential

    Now run:

    make clean

    make

    sudo make install

    sudo modprobe ath_pci

    sudo modprobe wlan_scan_sta

Off course in the madwifi folder. You might want to move the folder to your home folder because we’ll need it again after a Kernel update.
Yep, I did update the kernel last week and it was before I turned on the router... And yes, I hadn't recompiled the madwifi driver (nor tried another wireless network)...
    So... now... it's WORKING perfectly!

However, the link you provided does seem to present a simpler solution. So I'll try that one out too before I mark this as SOLVED (which nonetheless is! ).

    Thanks!

    Yep, working fine!

Of course I had to install linux-backports-modules-hardy instead of linux-backports-modules-intrepid.

    EDIT:
Erm... can't seem to find neither the "Thanks" link for superprash2003 nor the link to mark the thread as "SOLVED"... Am I missing something... AGAIN?

both features have been disabled for quite a while , due to certain server issues.
