    Ubuntu 9.04 Host

    1. KVM - Works out of the box for me .
    2. Virtualbox - On the Sun site {PUEL edition} , Virtualbox 2.2.0 is available for Ubuntu 9.04. Works fine .

    ....
    ....

I agree. VirtualBox works fine. I'm currently running Jaunty (guest) on top of Jaunty (host). The host is the 64 bit version and the guest is the 32 bit version. Just one quirk with this setup. VirtualBox will get extremely sluggish if the host machine is not running PulseAudio.

Hopefully, this information will help someone fix a sluggish issue with VirtualBox.

I have a sluggish virtual box in comparison to OSE, but I can't use what you mentioned due to the fact that the guest is Windows.

If you do not need audio, an alternative fix is to leave the audio option turned off for the guest machine.

Thanks for the tip. Personally I do not use audio in the guests.

Try maxing out the video memory for the guest machine. During my investigations of the audio issue, I found that the amount of video memory can cause the sluggishness as well if the value is too low.

I figured that was the case, because adding more regular RAM didn't do the trick.

    Re: Virtualization Ubuntu 9.04

Dumb question. Running VMware Workstation 6.5 on a Ubuntu 9.04 desktop. I have a VM that needs promiscuous on /dev/vmnet0. Well workstation installs as root so /dev/vmnet0 is owned by root with a group of root. I can do a sudo chown and fix that and it all works until the next time I restart Ubunto. It goes back to root then. Any ideas?

Thanks alot! I was wondering why the mouse wouldn't work fully upon a fresh install of 9.04-desktop-amd64 with vm-workstation 6.5.2

Yes, moving forward, for me, vmware is more hassle then it is worth.

Don't get me wrong, 1.x is an awesome product, not as happy with 2.x.

KVM and virtualbox are both easier to install and maintain.

If you need to file share, learn a network protocol (ssh (scp) , samba, ftp, nfs, http) or use a flash drive.
