I've installed Debian Etch and Crunchbang on my Mini 9, but have fallen back to Ubuntu Netbook Remix as my fiance uses it more than I do and she seems to like UNR's simplicity. However, both Etch and Crunchbang ran w/o issues.

I've also installed Moblin on it, but there was no working wireless at the time, so it's time on the Mini 9 was short-lived.

Debian Etch was just installed using Unetbootin.

Moblin - Intel recently handed the project over to the Linux Foundation.

How did you get UNR on your Dell Mini 9? Right now I'm running the OS it came with (Some Dell version of Hardy) and really want to get UNR.

Installed Hardy using Unetbootin, then add the repos, add the appropriate packages. See here, they also have instructions for Intrepid.

You should wait for Jaunty's official release on April 23rd. It looks like the default install will work perfectly with the mini 9. The only thing you will need to do after the install is manual raise the speaker volume. Further, UNR will be available with a simple terminal command.

I am currently running CrunchBang 8.10 on my Mini 9. The two are a great combination; speedy but with a very useful suite of pre-installed applications and codecs. I have tried many other distros as well. Most distros do not recognize the wireless out of the box, but this can be fixed. I briefly tested Ubuntu 9.04 beta, and I think it will be really nice.

Just to add my two cents...

I would really love to get something like the Dell Mini 10 or eeepc, but I have one issue. I would love to get an "upper end" model, however they are only available with Windows. And yes, I know that I could just remove Windows, but I am still paying for it.

I was quite excited when I heard Dell was going to be supporting Linux/Ubuntu. Now I only wish they offered all of their products with a Linux option.
