Why two sites: ubuntulinux.org and ubuntu.com

Why are there two identical sites with two different domain names?
    www.ubuntulinux.org
    www.ubuntu.com
Is the first one even officially recognised by Canonical? Isn't it violating the Trademark Policy?

both owned by Canonical so no issues with the trademark policy

why 2 sites? why do most companies register .com, .ca, .co.uk, etc? to protect themselves and give more chance of a hit landing you on their product.
    Debian Testing(64bit) + XFCE4 AM2 5200+ ATI Radeon HD4350, 4gig RAM,320Gig and 750gig HDs

what's the difference between an answer and a solution? An answer is what they want to hear, a solution is what they don't want to hear

That makes sense, but usually they just get one to redirect to the other, just like gmail.com redirects to mail.google.com.

they might be using url masking on one of the sites or hosting on the same server with both urls pointing to the same folder. who knows why they are doing what they are doing but looking at the info, it looks the same to me.
