    Lightbulb VMware confusion

    can anyone please put some light on VMware server and player.. what is the difference or which is better???

    or should i go with virtual box????

    (i won't pay for VMware.....vbox is free)

    My 0.02

    I use VMWare Server 2.0. You don't have to pay for it...just register it to get a serial number.

    It works well for me. I could never get Virtualbox to work for me, but in all fairness, I didn't spend a lot of time with it. It's all what you are used to. I got used to VMWare Server, and it works well for me.

    The only issue I ever have is I have to re-run the installer script after a kernel update. YMMV

    If you have the hardware, go for KVM.

    Otherwise, IMO, VMWare server 1.x is more stable and, again, IMO, has more userful fearures then 2.x. Player is a bit light weight and some people prefer it for that reason. With server you can make a new appliance.

    Virutalbox is also an option.
