    Quick question about Dell Mini 9

    Can it boot off a USB thumb drive to install Ubuntu?

    yep, but you will probably have to mod your bios

    modify your bios (boot initiation operating system). You know when you see the computer logo or the set of quick diagnostics when you start? That's the bios. On most pc's, it boots the HDD first. If you wanna install via USB, you will probably have to change that. Read your PC manual, but usually F1/F10/F12 at boot gets you into the bios.

    Why do computer abbreviations have the ability to stand for 4 different things. E.g. WEP - it's actually wired equivalent privacy, but it could be wireless encryption protocol, wireless equivalent protocol, wired extreme protocol, i'm making these up as i go along, but you get the idea.
