    Music sequencer application ?

What is the best music sequencing application for Ubuntu? I am ready to install and try Ubuntu again, my main reasons I have been using MS-Windows are Sony Vegas for video editing and I want to get into music sequencing hopefully with MIDI input and also a note editor to compose or see the music with notes and staves. I think Rosegarden is one such app, maybe something else? I want to be able to layer music phrases from a MIDI keyboard or synth keyboard, but as I said it would be nice to also have the music quantitized into notes. Something like Cubase for Windows/Mac which I almost bought. Hoping Linux has something good to offer.
