ubuntu boot broke down?!

hello.
i need your help on a very strange ubuntu thing(i am not calling it error because i don't know if it is an error). This morning when i tried to boot up ubuntu it was like gnome didn't start. all i get is a text interface where i don't know what to do.
it says something about a kinit error(?) and thats it. until then i see the loading bar and everythin. I'd hate to have to do a full reinstall, the last time i did that was when 8.10 came out.
any ideas please... any help will be greatly appreciated.

You have to login from there

kinit:No resume image,doing normal boot 

Name login:your login name 
password:your password

then do the command "startx"
this will log you into your Ubuntu.
Go to Synaptic Package Manager and check if you have installed "ubuntu-desktop" if not,you must install at.
Reboot your system, ENJOY.

thanks to your help i was able to backup my files, but couldn't fix it. reinstall worked fine.
