how do i not make ubuntu shutdown when the battery is "critically low"?

my laptop's battery is weird. it will stay on 99% for 15 minutes, jumps down to 0%, stays for 15 minutes, then it ends. in ubuntu it shuts down by itself. i can't find the setting to change. i keep the plug in my laptop all the time, but even the plug sucks. if i move it, it will disconnect, thus ubuntu shutting down...

Right click on the battery icon and select preferences (or System -> Administration -> Power Management). Under the "On battery power tab", you can select what you want your computer to do when it's critically low on power.
