I've been thinking of switching from Mac to System76. My MacBook has a line-in audio port, but no mic-in port. By contrast, it appears that all the System76 laptops have mic-in ports, but no line-in ports. Do I have this right? Seems odd... --Allen

My Pangolin has headphones port (line out) which works, microphone in which works and line in which I have not tested since I did not need.
Why would one have line in and not mic-in? I don't understand Apple.
Thanks for the quick reply. I don't understand either why Apple doesn't have both, but the old iBook G4 actually had neither. You had to buy a USB device to have any audio input at all. Anyway, I'm reassured that the Pangolin has line-in despite not saying so in the specs... I take it it's the leftmost hole in this photo? --Allen
That's not a line-in port. It is an SPDIF output port.
I think that, with most laptops, line-in and mic-in are pretty much the same thing.
Interesting, thanks. I haven't been able to get my Mac's line-in to work as a mic-in, so I assumed that if Pangolin had a mic-in it wouldn't work as a line-in. But I did some Googling, apparently this is a complex issue. --Allen
