Need good virtualization product for mac, to test linux's.

    Dear Lazywebz,

    Any suggestions?

Specifically free ones, also, which VMWARE products are free? I've been using vmware player, but now I can't find a version for Mac.

I have been using virtualbox, I was hoping that there was a VMware product that I could monkey around with though, does anyone have any idea as to what is available to me as a Mac user.

You can get a trial of VMware Fusion, or there is Parallels too. Though, the best thing about Virtualbox is the fact that it is free.

Yup. You mentioned free so I did not mentions Fusion or Parallels. I have used both of those products and I preferred Fusion at the time but both have probably released a new product since I last used either one. I do not believe that VMware offers any sort of free "player" for Mac.

VirtualBox is not bad. While VMware considers Linux a second class citizen on Fusion, I would highly recommend this over VirtualBox if you want something polished (or at least for long-term use).

For Mac, I'd recommend Fusion, but it is not free

Fusion and Parrallels (heard good things about both), are reasonably cheap though for virtualization software.

Pity those of us who are about to sink £81 into the latest VMware Workstation.

Oh and I tried VirtualBox before hand. It couldn't run XP 64 bit start menu w/o freezing for 2 minutes at a time...

VMware is a world away. Much better more stable solution. ^^

Normally I am an advocate of Open Source, but the thing is Open Source actually has to work if it is going to be worth using... in this (minority) case, at least for me, it is not working.

P.S. I can run Photoshop in Windows XP 64 bit really quickly in Workstation
