What is a good video editor?

Running 8.04. I downloaded Kino but it doesn't seem to like AVI files. I keep reading something about only being able to read old AVI's and it needs a ton of decoders for it to work. I'm lost when it comes to all this and codecs. What is a good Video editor for Ubuntu that will handle AVI?

Moved to multimedia and video (as it is not directly related to Dell).

Could not find Lives in the repo, and could not get Lives to compile. But Open Movie Editor, aside from being very out of date, is AWESOME for beginners that want simple chop cut paste and go for web cam to youtube video with simple ability to insert slides, images, and text VERY EASILY. Best part, content is very easy to manage.

The newer version looks great, and I look forward to seeing it in the repo.
If all else fails, read the documentation. There's nothing sissy about a MAN page.

    Re: OME

OME requires jackd, which messes up sound on Hardy (especially with Audacity). Also it looks like the versions in the repos are very out-dated. The complex installation instructions on the developer's website apply to Intrepid only.
