Fun stuff to do in ubuntu?

I found an old thread that had random things listed to do on Ubuntu that were fun. Any ideas of stuff to do? Install? Install something that would make mac and windows ppl go wow? Or just random things that are neat or fun to do. Yes, I said neat.

    so far I have

-bricked my sansa with gparted (doh!)
    -played with the virtual desktops
    -installed my ipod on amarok
    -checked out some themes.
    -installed AWN
-tried to install mame, but failed
    -tried emulators out with wine
-installed virtual box and windows xp through that (got usb to work as well)
-looked at the battery history of my laptop

I was thinking of trying out the MAC OS desktop theme... but it takes so many stems.

    Any more things to do?

-things I would like to do. Figure out how to delete duplicate mp3s, how to see the size of my internal hdd without having to go into terminal or gparted all the time.

If you like playing arround, all I can suggest is install the compizConfig settings manager (you need to have compiz enabled clearly)

Removing GRUB and trying to reboot. It's fun and can keep you busy for a whole night!

Trying different Desktop environments or window managers is always fun, and much easier than people think. Just install them, log out, change session, log in.

You can add "System Monitor" to your panel as an applet, then click on it, then choose "File Systems", and read the "total" and "available" section.

You could play with that with Ubuntu as guest VM in VirtualBox. That's also a chance to play with Lilo, the default Linux boot loader before Grub became the default.

Playing with ZFS in Linux in VirtualBox with a few virtual hard disks can also be fun, although ZFS likes to eat quite some RAM.
Or trying out software RAID or LVM inside VirtualBox.

    what's LVM?

How do I add system monitor as an applet to my desktop?

ARe there any good sources for learning how to read the terminal and to figure out how to make stuff work on ubuntu? Would that require programming knowledge?
