i want to lock my portable drive so no matter what is pluged into it will require a password to access the info on it i use stupid windows at work and linux and BSD at home the harder to crack the better can any one help???

IMO the best option is truecrypt as it is cross platform.

Just a note: dm-crypt and LUKS can be used in Windows with FreeOTFE.
But yes, encryption is the only way to go.
ok i will statrt to look for truecrypt but how do i apply it or get it any tips on that i will statrt to look for now thanks

kick *** how do you mark something solved i cant seem to figure that out i love linux..............
This feature had to be disabled. You need to edit the title of your thread manually and add [Solved]
