An excellent guide as usual, Andrew.
An excellent guide as usual, Andrew.
Andrew, mate Ive got problems with x264:
(Reading database ... 115204 files and directories currently installed.)
Preparing to replace x264 1:0.svn20090224-0.0ubuntu1-1 (using .../x264_1:0.svn20090228-0.0ubuntu1-1_amd64.deb) ...
Unpacking replacement x264 ...
dpkg: error processing /home/nullack/src/x264/x264_1:0.svn20090228-0.0ubuntu1-1_amd64.deb (--install):
trying to overwrite `/usr/lib/libx264.a', which is also in package libx264-dev
dpkg-deb: subprocess paste killed by signal (Broken pipe)
Errors were encountered while processing:
/home/nullack/src/x264/x264_1:0.svn20090228-0.0ubuntu1-1_amd64.deb
It does seem to install though, so its jst the package thats not created.

Hi Nullack,
I have just upgraded x264 successfully on my 'virgin' installation of Jaunty with no problems. I note the reference to libx264-dev, highlighted above. This might very well be the Ubuntu repository version on tour system? If so perhaps try removing it first and then install the git version.
All the best,
Andrew
BTW since this guide is in temporary 'quarantine' here in the Jaunty testing section can I ask that as many as possible test it out? In particular I am keen to hear if there are any media files that MPlayer does not play after following this setup guide.
Thanks,
Andrew
Andrew to answer your question. Theres long standing things mplayer/ffmpeg doesnt play, such as:
MS WMA Pro (personally this is the biggest gap for my uses)
MS WMVP
MS WVP2
Intel IV41
Intel IV50
Then there is decoder and demuxer bugs that are in a state of flux with SVN. Getting fixes, new bugs etcetc.
The biggest two of these for me currently in SVN is:
1. Broken VDPAU VC1
2. Broken VDPAU WMV3
He that will not reason is a bigot; he that cannot reason is a fool; he that dares not reason is a slave.
Thanks Andrew !
Works just fine......
a small humble proposal is to remove all $$$, faster "copy and paste"
I hate how people use those symbols instead of sudo or non-sudo.
What's the rationale?
SVN has improved with working vc-1 and wmv3 vdpau playback. Though, there is a bit of green artifacting with vdpau which is probably a driver issue.
