Thanks for the guide. Didn't run into any problems compiling. SMPlayer has an annoying bug though. Every time the controls are displayed or disappear the desktop flashes for half a second. I'm using the version in the repositories. Maybe I'll check out the PPA and see if it's any better.

Glad it all worked for you. The SMPlayer problem sounds a little odd, I cannot duplicate it here using the repository SMPlayer. So I am not sure about that one...

If you mean the control that appears in fullscreen when the mouse is moved to the bottom of the screen, maybe this option may help: Preferences -> Interface -> Floating control -> Bypass window manager.

It was already checked. Unchecking it causes the controls to not display at all.

Just to clarify, it flashes the desktop image, not the panels or any other open windows. Turning off compiz fixes the problem.

Looks like this might be a bug with compiz or gnome. Flash player does the same thing when exiting full screen mode.

which I suspect means that MPlayer compilation is broken for a little while. It is something of a PITA as well that web browsing of the svn is turned off at the moment as well.

The devs try to keep svn buildable and robust - like all complex software it doesnt work out that way all the time. Sometimes its just a mastter of synching a few hours later to svn again, if not, ping them on IRC about it.
