    Hmmmm.... looks like it is still very much early days for libopencore-amr . I notice that there have been some major changes in the git repository over the last little while. Are you happy to try the newer version? Delete the old version and try the following:

    Code:
    $ git clone --depth=1 git://opencore-amr.git.sourceforge.net/gitroot/opencore-amr
    $ cd opencore-amr
    $ ./configure
    $ make
    $ sudo checkinstall --fstrans=no --install=yes --pakdir "$HOME/Desktop" \
    --maintainer "$USER" --pkgname="opencore-amr" --pkgversion "0.1.2" \
    --backup=no --deldoc=yes --deldesc=yes --delspec=yes --gzman --default
    $ make clean
    This also worked on my system but MPlayer had trouble finding the amrwb libraries.

    Thanks for your trouble,

    Andrew

    Edit:
    Hmmm..... are you using a 64bit installation?
    Andrew,

    Thanks for the response, yes I am using x64 Jaunty. Your latest instructions worked out well and open-amr was installed without any hitch on my Jaunty x64.

    Good to hear . It might be well worthwhile though building formal debian packages as mc4man has suggested, it is a major flaw in most of the guides that I have written that I do not use such packaging....

    All the best,

    Andrew

    Edit: Mind you my own experiments with the git libopencore-amr include a failure to build it properly with FFmpeg and MPlayer so I would not class myself as any sort of authority .

    I just build the open amr, I already have mplayer installed via your instructions. Do you think I should rebuild mplayer again?

    You can interrogate your copy of MPlayer as follows:

    Code:
    andrew@skamandros~$ mplayer -ac help | grep amr

    ffamrnb ffmpeg working AMR Narrowband [libopencore_amrnb]
    ffamrwb ffmpeg working AMR Wideband [libopencore_amrwb]
    and if you don't see the amr libraries as above you will need to rebuild MPlayer. I am still only having success with the release version but I am upgrading my host distro shortly and I suspect the upgrade will heal a few problems.

    Mind you when you hear the sound quality of most amr tracks you would wonder why all the effort .

    All the best,

    Andrew

    ffamrwb ffmpeg working AMR Wideband [libopencore_amrwb]
    Thanks Andrew, this is what I get so I guess its working fine thanks to you.

    Great news . I have parked a 3gp file on my personal website that I encoded with FFmpeg using h263 video and libopencore-amr so if you want to test your installation and Rammstein is your taste try this one:

    Code:
    wget http://www.andrews-corner.org/samples/Rammstein_Du_Hast.3gp
    All the best,

    Hi,

    Exasperatingly enough the release version of libopencore-amr has vanished from SourceForge and combined with a few problems with the git version has given me enough reason to remove the information from this guide as well .

    Hi,

    A patch has surfaced that allows FFmpeg and MPlayer to compile properly with the libopencore-amr libraries:

    http://lists.mplayerhq.hu/pipermail/...st/021677.html

    This works well on my system for both FFmpeg and MPlayer but confirms my view that there is a bit more 'settling in' to go with amr and MPlayer.

    Hi,

    For those who have perhaps not already heard the svn MPlayer now has the ability to natively playback wmapro files using ffwmapro. Test your own copy with WMVHDsplash.wmv which should play with default settings as follows:

    Code:
    andrew@skamandros~/samples$ mplayer WMVHDsplash.wmv
    MPlayer SVN-r29649-4.3.3 (C) 2000-2009 MPlayer Team

    Playing WMVHDsplash.wmv.
