Questions before trying Ubuntu once again

It's nice to be back in here.
I havent been using Ubuntu since one and a half year because I went in to some troubles at school concerning the incompability with TI-interactive.

I will start by dual-booting on my desktop to get the hang of it once again.

But before I do so I want to know if it is compatible with Core i7?
And how good has wine become? Is it possible to run TI-interactive through it?
