shared folders show up on my mac but are not accessible

when i shared folders with windows they would appear in the finder on my macbook and be accessible just the same

i've selected the same folders to be shared with ubuntu 8.10 and when i go to finder they appear but the message i get when i try to open them is:
'the operation cannot be completed because the original item for "[folder name]" cannot be found.'

    any ideas?

    can you give more details?

You check the box to share, do you allow write privs? do you allow guest access?

I just tested enabled a shared folder and allowed guest access. Then I connected in the finder as guest and I could browse and download files as I liked.
