What is your graphics card? Is it only choppy with the arrow keys or with the slider too?
You can do lspci from the terminal to view your graphics card.
You should be able update supported hardware drivers by using
system-administration-hardware drivers and enabling restricted drivers.
whenever i go to system, administration, hardware drivers it doesn't show anything at all
this is what it lists for video device, though:
