    Deepin 2014 (Final)

I ran across Deepin 2014 the other day when I was looking for a Lightweight Linux Distro to install on a friends old laptop and I was very impressed with it so I decided to give it a try for myself and I installed it on my laptop and and I have been using it for about five days now.

It has a very pleasing modern user interface called Deepin Desktop Environment which is based on HTML 5 technologies that is very fast and responsive plus there is a very useful central location for computer settings called Control Center.

Like most newly released Operating Systems there are some issues that need to be ironed out.
I am currently having issues with Bluetooth functioning reliably and the dictionary & thesaurus for LibreOffice had to be installed manually but overall I am quite impressed with Deepin 2014.

Has anyone else had a chance to check it out?

If so how was your experience and what do you think of it?

    *looks at right menubar*

Lots of wasted space, too wide. The big chunky buttons would be good on a touchscreen though I guess, that's where that huge menubar would come in handy.

Also looks like a Mac clone. I have a Mac, and Apple does it better for that kind of UI.

The menu bar on the right is autohidden. It only appears when you push your mouse against the right edge of the screen, so it doesn't actually take up any space when you're working.

The desktop is very responsive and the default theme is easy on the eyes. I've been playing around with it booting a live session from thumb drive. The only real problem I've encountered is that nothing i do will make my wifi work on Deepin, although it works out of the box on Ubuntu.

I wish deepin had a live cd so I could virtualbox it. I just want to try it out........

They do. The download on their site has an option on the boot menu labelled "Install and Try" which actually boots to a live session without installing anything. That's how I've been running it from my thumb drive.

    That is very odd?

Deepin 2014 and Ubuntu 14.04 both use the same Linux Kernel and would use the wireless driver from the Kernel unless you installed a third party driver?

It indicates that you are using the Ubuntu Development Release which is using a newer Linux Kernel, maybe that has something to do with your wireless working in Ubuntu?

Try installing an updated Linux Kernel into Deepin 2014 and see if that makes a difference.

I like how you can group the App icons together that are on your desktop.

    It is very Android Like
