update problems

hey im kinda new to linux in general but i love the operating system... unfortunately i have to run it on a virtual machine from my macbook... this is the message i get when i run updates:

W: Failed to fetch http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/po...11.27_i386.deb
Could not connect to localhost:4001 (127.0.0.1). - connect (111 Connection refused)

any ideas??

that seems like a very strange error message. I would guess it is related to the networking configuration of your VM. What VM are you using? can you open firefox and access the web?
