Sadly, there is no reset. You must reinstall.
Something I do to save myself time with this is using a program called Partimage to create an image file of my Ubuntu partition, which I then restore when I mess something up. It takes about 7-8 minutes to do a restore that way.
The main Partimage site is here: http://www.partimage.org/Main_Page
And you can download a bootable CD with Partimage on it from here: http://ping.windowsdream.com

How about a master reset for at least GNOME? Is there a way? I'm having some problems after upgrading to Intrepid. I was thinking maybe it was caused by old Hardy configurations or something.
I was having a problem with my "Close and Minimize" bar disappearing. Try this article, I haven't personally tried it, but it has all positive reviews.

Sorry, I thought it said April 16, 2010. This is an old thread, didn't mean to get it started again.
