    Talking Why Ubuntu?

Why do you prefer Ubuntu instead of other distros such as Fedora, Debian etc... or instead of Windows?

I just wondered and will appreciate answers in bullet form rather than paragraphs and sentences.

    Thanks

I don't. I prefer Arch Linux mostly because of its packaging.

Ubuntu is more of a do it for you distro, though, so that is probably why many people like it.

    Re: Why Ubuntu?

I prefer Ubuntu to other distro's simply because it meets my needs & I am used to it's layout eyc.
I use other distro's to see if they are worth the bother. Some are, some I dislike.
Windows runs slow on my hardware, Ubuntu doesn't.

    Re: Why Ubuntu?

The way Ubuntu handles package management is fantastic, it's a great "install and you're done" distro with most tools I require installed by default.

I like to play around and edit some things but mostly Ubuntu is set up how I like from a fresh install.

Also I have tried other distros and cant find anything that does what I want. The light and slim distros lack functionality for my main machine, (and some use older kernels making them effectively useless for my laptops requiring Wifi drivers) also I find that for example Fedora is a pain in the you know what when it comes to updating packages.

    That's why I use Ubuntu.

P.S the community is fantastic... great help and support is only a few clicks away.

    Re: Why Ubuntu?

Mostly because of its community and the fact it works better on my Laptop as far as compatability. I like Fedora Core too...but had alot of problems installing on my laptop. Am still looking to try Mandrivia and especially Arch Linux since i hear alot of good things about it.

I don't. Debian packaging makes me sick to the stomach. I find Tazwok on SliTaz far easier for creating packages.
