    I don't quite get this.

I am fairly new to Linux and use it as I think competition in any industry is necessary and helps to encourage improvements faster.

I think Linux is heading in the right direction and is becoming more popular and I hope it does. But I can't understand all the anti Bill Gates. I use Microsoft systems as well as I'm sure most other users do, but why does Linux want to be Windows or look like Windows?

Let Microsoft get on with what they are doing and let Linux continue to move forward how it is.

    Just me two pence.

As this is not a support question -> moved to windows discussions.

longhorn, wow, talk about a blast from the past

why have something named longhorn, that just a horrid idea.
It was Microsofts code name for Vista and thats it.

I have no qualms with Windows, as I still use it all the time. Infact I'm loving Windows 7, sure I wish there was a new File system as NTFS and FAT32 are seeing their age, but I'm dealing with that.

The idea doesn't appeal to me, but again, I don't really know if I understand your idea. You want to build a beta version of Windows on top of Ubuntu? I really don't know what you expect to get from that, or where you want it to go.

What really needs to be done is getting all the cracks filled in the desktop we already have. Like when you type a password wrong when you locked your screen it flickers. Also a front end for configuring Wacom tablets. Simple stuff that will polish the desktop.

    right ...just to clarify
1.LONGHORN Was NOT Anything Like Windows Vista Or XP
    2.not Longhorn system Files ,Themes
3.it will make linux look more superspecialawsome

THIS IS NOT A WINDOWS DISCUSSION AS LONGHORN IS ABANDONED AND SO IS NOT AFFILIATED WITH MICROSOFT EXCEPT BY COPYRIGHT OF SYSTEM FILES

    Thankyou for understanding...

I really doubt that. Most of the Linux desktops I see are miles beyond anything Windows has ever done.

And if that's the goal, why not just create a desktop theme that mimics Longhorn, and then you get that superspecialawesome-ness without having to step on Microsoft's toes?

Well I moved it here from ABT. ABT/ General help are for support questions and Windows Discussions seemed most appropriate to me at the time.

Would you prefer I move it to Desktop themes ?

If you aren't using Longhorn system files (such as WinFS), it has absolutely nothing to do with Longhorn. What exactly is the connection?
