Flash videos in firefox very tempermental

Loading a video in firefox seems to be very unreliable for me, a lot of the time it will get stuck on a loading video animation or something, but no video.

This happens on all video sites, but especially seems to happen on Youtube (doesn't seem to so much on iPlayer, but I use Youtube a lot more often).

Clearing private data and refreshing the page usually works, but sometimes it needs to be done twice and it gets to be a pain when you have to do it on every video.

It seems to work much better on Opera in ubuntu or on firefox/chrome in windows, but it's a pain on firefox in ubuntu.

how about details? ubuntu 32-bits or 64-bits? ubuntu 8.04 or 8.10
how did you install flash and what package? flashplugin-nonfree, gnash, swfdec or something else?

Always forget to put the details!

Ubuntu 8.10 32 bit, flash was installed by downloading the .deb from the Adobe website onto a clean install.

In addition to these problems with flash video, firefox seems to have trouble keeping a connection to the internet in general. Sometimes it will just stop loading and the only way to make it work again is to close it right down and start it up again. Again this only seems to happen with Firefox on Ubuntu but Opera on Ubuntu and Firefox on Windows is fine.

then it must be a problem with firefox settings, check firefox>edit>preferences or backup /home/'user'/.mozilla just by renaming the folder, start firefox now with default settings, should work if it's just a firefox issue.
