Anyone know how to unlock a torrent?

Hi,
I just spent a few days downloading a torrent, only to find out it is locked. And to unlock it, I have to register for a porno site, which I'm against for obvious reasons. And so my question is this: does anyone know how to crack these things?

I'm sure its probably simple enough if you know how, but the thing is I don't, which is why I'm asking.

Its a .avi, and I attempted to run it with VLC Media Player, which can run any type of video format, but this particular time, the progress bar thing just went fairly fast to the end, and that was it, no video. But there was a readme file that downloaded with the torrent, and so I opened it, and read what it contained...and it said that it was locked, and in order to unlock it, I needed to go to a site it gave me the link to, and follow the directions there. So I took the link, pasted it in my browser, and went there...and it turns out it was a porno site, and supposedly would unlock the movie when I registered, which I wasn't about to do.

I have no idea how they locked it, but they apparently did a good job of it...perhaps changing some code or something in the .avi file.

Is that enough information, or should I give more?

I never said I trusted anything...but it happens to be a good movie, and I'm willing to scan the torrent with various software to make sure its clean.

I'm not sure what you've gotten ..but I have found lately that some of the newer torrents out there are nothing but MB's of codec junk. When you go to open it..either it tells you to go to a site to register for the key..or in your case, register on a porn site.
Good practice is to check comments on any intended download ...see if others have gotten it successfully.

True...I admit I may not have read any comments that were on it (if there were even any), before downloading the torrent...but the thing is, with this particular torrent, its the only one I have managed to find so far, and I found it at a reputable torrent site too (mininova.org), so that's the reason why I was willing to take the chance this time, and download it. I suppose I could hop over real fast to the site (shouldn't be any trouble finding the page again) and looking to see if there's any comments on it, and if there is, reading them, but I was kind of hoping someone here knew of some way to crack it, if you know what I mean...

Well...I just checked the site, and couldn't find the particular torrent that I downloaded again! Someone (who fell in the same trap I did) may have reported the torrent, and they removed it. I literally have NO clue why its apparently gone.

Still would like for someone to come forward with a way to unlock the torrent though...

Answer is you can't. The torrent file isn't locked. There are many sites which use private trackers and need you to have your ip with them to allow you to download - simple. So you need to go to this site and register, further when you download the torrent, it gives you a record in their database. Its kinda funny and dont work exactly as I say here in most cases. There is a private tracker where I belong to, which needs me to login to their site for an ip address update before deluge will again start to download the file. i.e. my ip is "acknowledged" by tracker to allow me to connect to peers from the tracker.

Some only use the concept of Passkey rather than IP as dynamic IPs can cause problems

A Passkey is a unique string of 32 characters that has been randomly assigned to your account. It helps the tracker identify you as a user.

When you download a .torrent file from this site, the Passkey is automatically added to the announce URL in the .torrent file. Therefore whenever that .torrent is used the tracker will associate it with your account, no matter what IP you are connecting from.

Well...that sounds a lot different than my particular case, because the movie supposedly is "locked" and wont play until it is "unlocked" by following the directions in the readme. Maybe I said the wrong thing...the torrent file itself is not what is locked. Rather its the file that was downloaded, via the torrent, which is an .avi movie.

I guess I was wrong...it doesn't say anything about it being locked. Rather, it simply says it wont play until following the instructions at the site. I think the site itself is must have been what said something about unlocking the movie.
