Slow External HDD on Intrepid

Hi, i have a tiny issue hope you can help me

i'm using ubunt uintrepid ibex currently on latest updates, and i have an issue about external hard drives

when i connect the harddisc (samung 160gb) it's like usb 1.1, transfer is about 700-800 kbyte/sec (works nice on windows environment)

i read some threads over launchpad and here and as far as i understood it's a kernel issue (which i'm not sure)

so, if there's a solution (preferebly except kernel downgrade) can you please help me, i sometimes need to transfer huge files and this speed is just killing me

ok this'll be an epic bump but i got it somehow:

first i plug the harddisk
then i right click on its name and unmount
then unplug and replug and it's fast again

totally weird :/
