Cool Find machine on local network

Hi! I have a Ubuntu machine on the LAN that I can reach from Windows XP with putty (and also map Samba share) but I can't reach it from Ubuntu 8.10!

Can anyone give me a step by step on how to find it?

I don't know its address and the server name don't seem to work... I know it's turned on and I do have ssh installed on it...

    Please help!

Re: Find machine on local network

How do you reach it from Windows - hostname? You can use Windows to ping the machine - It should respond with IP address - at least my server does...
Thgis page goes into some details - and a possible solution.

Yes, by hostname. It's not a Windows server though. It has Ubuntu 8.10 on it. I'll give it a shot in the weekend, thanks!
