HH Randomly didn't boot - I think

Hi, I have been using HH on my computer for a while now with no problems. All of a sudden today it didn't want to boot up (I think).

Normally when I turn it on, it posts, the grub launcher (or whatever its called) starts, and then my monitor says "Can't display this setting", but in 30 secs its fine as the desktop loads.

Today, however, it stayed at the monitor message. I don't know if it wouldn't boot or the display settings within Ubuntu had changed for some reason.

I got it started by hitting 'Esc' at the grub launcher stage and selecting the top option throughout the process. When I shut it down will it do this next time, or this just a freak thing? What can I do to stop it/what could have caused it?
