    SCIM anyone?

I was recently reading the "Firefox New Version" section of the Ubuntu Wiki. I see a caution that reads " If you are using scim-1.0.2 as your input method platform, firefox will crash on startup."

My first thought was: "What the heck is scim"?

A little reasearch leads me to the SCIM web site, which appears to be written in a language other than English. From what I can determine it's in written in UberGeekesque.

Is anyone here bilingual? I'd like a translation (ok not word-for-word, but a summary) if possible.

    Thanks.

SCIM is an app to type in languages like japanese, chinese, etc...

You type something like baka in a normal keyboad and scim converts it.

I don't know what version of SCIM I am using.
I got SCIM following this guide:
    https://wiki.ubuntu.com/JapaneseInpu...%28japanese%29

I've instaleed Firefox 1.5 using the Script from
    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=99004

    and didn't have any problems.

If you don't know what SCIM is, you probably don't use it. So be calm.

Oh and btw it's not true what wiki says. You can still run scim with firefox 1.5. The problem is scim-gtk2-immodule pack.

If you don't like someone's response, post a better one. We aren't in need of post critics around here.

    So then

    Post critics = bad

    Jerks = good.

    Thanks for the clarification.

    @angrykeyboarder
    lol.
I found a solution for scim problem with firefox, so I mentioned it. Just in case if this problem will occur. And the solution (or rather walkaround) is NOT that easy to be found.. I was also kind enough to answered your question - which in fact wasn't too clever..

It was like - "hey i found in new dri bugs that it doesn't work with gf 6800. what now? what is gf 6800? what should i do?"

To find out what is scim - you could have simply use google. But you found it better to ask it on forum. And call those who respond jerks. Interesting attitude, indeed. Pretty common in America.

Now it's easy to predict that you will start flaming. Gosh, you already started. So have fun cause I don't find insults amusing.

    Oh and Happy New Year.

"If you don't know what SCIM is, you probably don't use it. So be calm."
I don't either. That's why I referred to you as a jerk. I wasn't amused, but I was insulted. And someone prior to you, gave a direct response to my question, without the need to be insulting.

I wasn't at all responding to what you said about Firefox, Firefox wasn't the subject of this thread (which btw, I started in the first place.).

So forget Firefox (for the moment anyway).

I simply asked what SCIM is. You decided to respond with:

"If you don't know what SCIM is, you probably don't use it. So be calm."
That was rude, condescending and totally uncalled for.

This post on the other hand, was polite, straight to the point and answered my question. It was all I needed and all I asked for.

Your info re Firefox was nice, but that niceness was overridden by your other remark. And you sill hadn't answered the question anyway.

    Re: SCIM anyone?

Well, I assure you that being rude wasn't my intent.
I'm sorry that you found it that way.

So now that everybody's happy and everything's clear, we can end this topic

    Have a nice day.
