Here I go again, well someone might bump in and help.. I'm really lost. I badly need audio to work.

Fresh install -- I have audio.
after the First reboot, audio goes away. Literally none.

Let me know if you wanna see anything else from the configs that could help.

I have sound over HDMI, but if the source is anything higher than stereo all I get is static (5.1 doesn't work).

When I went into the .conf file I noticed that...

options snd-hda-intel index=-2

Wasn't even in the file, but...

Was. I added "options snd-hda-intel index=-2" and then I realized that the .txt provided in the OP doesn't have an AC892 model list so I have no idea what to specify the model as.

I tried leaving out the model and trying it with the new "options snd-hda-intel index=-2" line but then I got an "Audio Failed to Initialize" error (it at least worked for stereo before).

Also, after adding "options snd-hda-intel index=-2" I got this error when typing aplay.

After removing the "options snd-hda-intel index=-2" line and rebooting, it worked just like it did before (stereo sources work, surround sources don't, all over HDMI).

Also, ever since adding the "options snd-hda-intel index=-2" line and removing it I get an...

aplay: main:654: audio open error: Device or resource busy

Error anytime I try to type aplay and I can't run any speaker tests without getting the same error (Device or resource busy).

Any suggestions on any of the above?

After upgrading to version 1.0.23. on my laptop all was well until I plugged my logitech USB headphones/mic in. The computer froze instantly, nothing worked, so I had to turn it off by force not a nice procedure when running a linux filesystem as you know. I booted with a live CD and then everything worked fine, I've also tried headphones in the normal headphone jack and that has no concequenses. This problem did not excist before the upgrade so I was wandering if anyone else has had the same problem. I've tried googling but found nothing. All help is very much apreciated

Well, I don't know the solution to your problem, but please take into account that USB headphones/mic is actually a USB sound card with headphones/mic attached to it. It is by no means the same thing as headphones in the normal headphone jack.

If you were able to use the USB headphones with the ALSA drivers in the standard ubuntu package, maybe you didn't include support for tha particular sound card when you configured the script (although, IIRC, the default setting in the script is to include support for all known cards).

What I'd try to do in your place is:

1. uninstall the upgrade (restore the original alsa and kernel packages).
   
2. reboot (to enable the original drivers)
   
3. plug in the USB headphones and verify that they work OK
   
4. with the USB headphones plugged in, check which sound card it uses. In a terminal type:
   

   cat /proc/asound/cards

   The last entry is probably your USB sound card.
   
5. re-run the ALSA upgrade script with the USB headphones plugged-in all them time.

If this doesn't work, posting here which sound card is in the USB headphones, may help other people help you.

Could you please tell me what packages to reinstall? When I reinstall those that I can think of I still get version 1.0.23. when I run 1.0.23.
